Something new

One of the yahoo knit a longs that I belong to is making the Sour Apple Socks so I am giving them a try. This is my first attempt with adding beads to a knitted project. So far so good! I am really happy with the way they are turning out. I did not string my beads but rather am adding them with a tiny crochet hook as I come to the appropriate stitch.

I am also working on a batwing shawl of sorts. I have a big one that goes over the back on my loveseat and a small one that goes over the back of Gary's chair and am doing another small one to go over the back of my chair. Also trying to make myself work on my lace shawl at least a couple of rows a day.

Christmas knitting really must get started right away too! I thought I had the pattern all picked out for the girls, but think I am changing my mind. I might just end up doing the fingerless mittens, matching hat and neckwarmer for them all, and of course socks. Might forget about trying to do shrugs or boleros and sweaters. For the littler ones I could just do regular mittens. That is starting to sound really good to me LOL!!

I have a sweater to do for Rawley (Thomas the tank) and Christmas stockings for Rawley and Tammy too. My needles best going on these things!

Starting to warm up

Our temps are slowly climbing up here and by the weekend it should be very nice and toasty. We sure are enjoying our a/c this year and are very happy with the way it is keeping the house. One of the nicest things is how it helps keep the humidity down.

Last night I went for my massage. I think I am totally addicted to them. Can just feel all those knots dissolving. I have been going every 2 weeks for quite some time now. It is nice that Gary's insurance covers a portion of them, but think I would go anyways.

Didn't really do much knitting at all yesterday. Have been playing around with mittens on 4 needles and think that I pretty much have a pattern I am happy with. I will take the finished one to my Dad's on the weekend and compare to his. I also dug out a lacy shwal that I am working on and did a few rows on it yesterday. My thoughts had been to have it done in time to wear to my cousins wedding on July 8th but don't think that is going to happen. Takes a long time to work across one row, so doing 3 rows in an evening is about the limit.

My dad phoned to say he has his stress test appointment for July 13th. I am hoping that either my brother or my Uncle Joe can take him in. It will be really hard for Gary to get time off then as there will be one on holidays and hopefully the other one will be back from sick leave.

This is the mitten that I have been experimenting on and think I finally have a products I am happy with.

Update on the '3's'

I talked to my aunt on Friday afternoon before we headed out. She said that the doctors said that Uncle Arnold had stabalized that week and was much more rested. I would think that being on the oxygen is probably helping with that. They are thinking that it might be this week that he comes to Brandon for more testing. Their kids all came home this weekend to visit and they were suppose to be taking Uncle Arnold out on Sunday. The kids were going to cook a turkey supper and have some family time at the house.

My Dad thought he might get out on Friday, but the doctor said he wanted him to stay in over the weekend and that he was to start exerting himself a bit more. The had him walking the halls slowly but over the weekend he was to start walking faster and farther to ensure that he would not have any troubles. We went in to see him on Friday night and then again on Saturday and he is really looking good. Saturday we went in early and went to his house and Gary did the garage and I cleaned up the house somewhat so it is ready for the party on July 1st. So, as long as Dad didn't have any complications he should be getting out today.

I talked with Ryan Friday afternoon and he said that he had gotten a phone call and they were going to fix his car. We were surprised as he had been told that usually when air bags deploy they write them off.

We had a pretty good weekend at the trailer. The weather was a bit iffy until Sunday of course. Seems that it is always nice on Sunday when you have to pack up and go home. Friday night we went down to Don and Kathy's for the fire and Saturday we were at Grant and Linda's for fire. Saturday after we got back to the trailer we decided to go for a golf game. We went to the Oak Lake course and it wasn't busy which is just the way I like it! We had a good time, got rained on but it wasn't too bad. When we got back to the trailer it started to just pour, so we were lucky to be home*S*

I really didn't accomplish much in knitting at all this weekend. Seemed that we didn't spend much time in the trailer at all.

Phone Call

Last night I phoned to talk with Tammy and before we were done Rawley wanted to talk. He is such a funny kid! The call goes something like this
R: Hi there
P: Hi Rawley how are you today?
R; Ohhhhhhh pretty good.
R: You are coming to visit us aren't you
P: Yes we are, is that okay?
R: Yes it is! You will be our first company at our new place!
R: I live in Naniamo now, did you know that?
P: Yes Rawley, I did know that.
R: Okay
R: Now when you visit me you will have to take the ferry.
P: Really? is it a long ride
R: No not really it takes about 2 mins
P: Oh that isn't bad then
P: What is there to do on the ferry?
R: Well when I go I go to the play room.
P: Is that fun
R: Oh yes!!!!
P: Do you think Gary would like the play room
R: Oh! Yes he would.
R: Are just 2 of you coming or 3 of you?
P: Just 2 of us this time.
R: Oh
P: Crystal has to stay home so she can work
R: Oh
R: When are you coming to my house?
P: Oh, it will be a few more days yet.
Hear phone drop and Rawley yelling...SHE SAYS THEY ARE COMING IN 2 DAYS!!!!!!

Westport Wave Socks

So sorry for the confussion about this pattern.

The pattern is in the yahoo group called Townsend Socks Knitalong. Once you are a member of that group if you look in files it is under Betty's Socks. It is a easy pattern to memorize and such fun to work.

Things do come in three's

It seems that the saying that things come in three's is right.
First was my uncle Arnold.
Second was my Dad.
And I called Ryan Tuesday night and he told me that he had been in a car accident. He is okay, other than a bit sore, the other person is fine, but he isn't too sure about how is car will fare. The airbags deployed and he has been told that that will probably cause his car to be written off. I talked to him last night and he gets his car adjusted on Monday. Something that they really didn't need to be dealing with now as money is tight for them.

My Uncle Arnold phoned yesterday morning to see if I had heard more about Dad. He sounds in good spirits, but does sound weak. He is going to have his kids all home this weekend to visit so I am sure he will enjoy that.

Dad appears to be doing well. He is at stage 5 now, and once he is stage 8 they will kick him out of the hospital. They have changed some of his medications and will see how that goes. He will also have to go for a stress test and then goes from there.

One just never knows

Firstly, an update on Crystal: She is just loving her job at the Credit Union. She has really caught on quickly and a couple of the girls have expressed how disappointed they are that she still has a year of school. Gary and I have been talking to her about that and asking her exactly how she feels etc. She says that she does want to finish her course but it is sounding like she might consider doing it evening or correspondence. Time will tell I suppose.

Secondly, an update on Ryan: They are all settled into their new apartment now. Sounds like they are liking it except finding that it is hot. They are checking to see if there is a way to put a window a/c in and if so we will take out one of ours when we go in the summer. We are so looking forward to heading out there this summer! As nice as it would be if Crystal could come with us, it will be nice to just be Gary and myself.

Gary continues to be very busy at work. They are still short one person so makes it hard to do any catching up. Daycare is keeping me busy as usual. Kenzie's days are starting to tick down now. We will certainly miss her when she moves. I have filled her spot with a little 2 yr old boy. Kenzie's mom told them about me and they took the spot over the phone.

We have been getting some of that summer hot weather and we sure are enjoying our ductless a/c! We are very happy with the way it is working and feel it was well worth the money.

Now for the 'one just never knows part':
My dad's brother, Uncle Arnold, has been having some health problems over the last few years but has never been able to get any real definitive answers. Last week he woke up not feeling all that well and wasn't breathing well so his wife took him to emergency against his wishes (MEN!). They admitted him and arranged for him to go by ambulance into Winnipeg for an angiogram. The news they got in there was not good. The angiogram showed that Uncle Arnold's heart was diseased so they could not do a stent nor bypass surgery. His heart is functioning at about 7%. They will be seeing a doctor in Brandon to discuss what drugs he can take etc. The prognosis is not all that great at all.

My dad phoned me to tell me Uncle Arnold's news and naturally he was upset. Dad has had what the doctors have called a Fibrolating Heart. Sometimes upon exersion his heart would start to race and he would have to sit and rest and it would stop. Uncle Arnold had something similar. While Dad and I were talking he said how this really makes a guy think. I tried to give him examples of how him and his brother's symptoms were different but he wasn't really listening to them. Last night just after daycare kids left I got a collect phone call from him and he said he was in the hospital. He had been out golfing with the guys and his heart started doing this fibrolating thing and it didn't really seem to settle down when they went in for coffee. He went home and then decided that he should go into see the doctor. The doctor sent him for tests and admitted him for observation, hooked him up to the heart monitor for the night and will run more tests today. The doctor now says that maybe it is angina. Persoanlly I feel that he has been sitting at home alone stewing about his brother, figuring he has the same problems and has put himself under so much stress that he brought this on himself. I may be wrong and there really may be a medical problem but it really does make me wonder. I am not sure how long they will keep him in the hospital, but would assume that it will depend what they find in these tests.

Trying to get caught up and adding a few things

Time just seems to fly by! Where on earth did May go, and here it is already June 9th! I just can't believe it.

Crystal is really liking her job at the CU. She works with a wonderful group of people which makes it nice. They have told her that she is catching on really quickly and she is mostly doing teller work. She is still keeping the odd shift at the Sub Shop because she does plan to go back there when school starts again. Well, plans to if her course load etc allows.

Ryan, Tammy, & Rawley are all moved and pretty much settled in to their new apartment now. Moving day was difficult for them as the people suppose to help couldn't so they did it themselves. I believe when we go out this summer we will get a load of things to bring back with us, things they don't have room for.

Gary has been extremely busy at work, working o/t most nights. They are short staffed right now as one of the guys is off sick. Not sure what will happen when guys start taking holidays, but guess it will all work out.

Daycare is going well. Before I know it though school will be out and then the fun starts. It is harder to keep the big kids busy and entertained all day long. They think they should be able to watch tv and movies all day and that doesn't happen here. Kenzie and Alexis will be leaving and I have a few on my waiting list so will give them a call and see who still needs care.

OTH: a pair of socks that I think I am finally happy with. I tried a different pattern first and wasn't happy with it at all, so to the frog pond I went. I think I have the one I want now. Should finish up the first one this weekend if we get the weather they are forecasting. Looks like it will pretty much be an inside weekend! I have been joining sock knitting groups left and right it seems. I read at one and see a link to another so join and on it goes. And, they all seem to be having a KAL and they are all working on such neat socks that I want to do them all! One pair is done from a chart and I have never done that before so looking forward to getting those ones cast on.

I tried to order more trekking from Martina, I placed the order and got back an email all in German so didn't know what it said. I replied to the email asking if they could tell me in English what it said...no answer.... replied to it again and still no answer. Replied to a different email address and finally heard back...seems that some of the colors I ordered were out of stock and discontinues so I needed to reorder..gggrrrr. Did that this morning so hopefully this time it all goes through. As if I really need more yarn, but oh well*S* Seems lately between yarn and books I am keeping the postman busy!

Now off to see if I can add some buttons to the sidebar here.
