Dentist

Last night I went for my dentist appt.Got my teeth cleaned, florided and checked out. He said that there was no problems, just a couple of teeth that he is going to keep an eye on because they have old fillings in them and will need to be replaced in time. I was glad to not have to go back for any work on them.

Came home and started getting things gathered up and put in my suitcase. Think I have my projects and show and tell all packed. Just doing up laundry today to get the last few things clean so I can pack. Excited? You bet! Hope that the roads are in good condition and we can just motor along and arrive on Saturday! And then, let the fun begin!!!!!

First Day of Spring

or so they say*S* We still have a fair bit of snow on the ground and our temps are a bit below normal for this time of year. At least we didn't get the dump of snow that Edmonton got over the weekend (20+cm)! We have had enough winter, time for some nice springy weather for sure.

This weekend was pretty uneventful. Friday night was the hockey game, Saturday we went out and ran some errands in the morning and then came home to watch Canada in the curling. The men's brier was also on so we watched that. Sunday was pretty much the same, except I did some tidying up and rearranging things. Going to get my house all cleaned up so that Crystal just has to keep her stuff picked up next week.

Since the main get together is being held in June, and it appears that the Canucks aren't included I am really looking forward to spending a few days with a few really good friends over spring break this year. I really am disappointed that not one of the canucks got an email about the upcoming gtg and had to hear about it via the grapevine. Guess the ones from south of the border no longer wish our company which is fine if that is how they feel. I am pretty sure I know the one responsible for the split in our group and if it makes her happy then so be it! Although it is sad that our fun group split this way. But I guess some just aren't happy unless they are the top dog! But from what I have seen of people like that they really do end up being pretty lonely and pretty sad in their lives.

But, anyways I am so glad that we were able to work around spring break here and get together to visit. I am sure we will do some knitting, lots and lots of laughing and of course eating some yummy food. What could be better than getting the chance to spend time with good friends, nice yarn & needles & tasty food! I also like that Gary and I get to spend time together on the trip there and the trip back home. It is nice that he gets a chance to visit with his family and I know they visit better when they aren't worried about entertaining me at the same time.

So the countdown is starting, what to pack, what will the weather be like, what to take to work on. I know I will have a wonderful time with my friends and we can look forward to the possiblity of a gtg next year.

Happy Girl!

Crystal had her interview in Virden and the next day she had one here, both at Credit Unions. On Tuesday the CU here phoned and offered her the job. On Wednesday she phoned them and told them that she would accept the offer. She hasn't heard from the Virden CU yet even though they told her they would phone her one way or the other. She is a pretty happy girl! She will get a a decent raise from what she was making at the Sub Shop plus she will be working full time hours. Now she has to go out and buy some clothes that she can wear for work, because blue jeans and sweatshirts just won't cut it. The CU is going to phone her to have her come in and discuss everything, have her fill out some papers and then make sure that she will get her 480 hours in.

Tomorrow is the last regular season hockey game. The team did make it to the playoffs but only by the skin of their teeth. It is working out really well that while we are away they are playing on the road, and then if there is a game 6 it will be played here and we will be back by then so Gary won't miss any hockey.

Today and tomorrow there is no school here so things will be a little bit busier than normal. Today I only had 3 schoolagers and 1 2yr old so it wasn't too bad. After the little one's nap I told them we were going out for a walk. My goodness, what is it with kids now a days! The little one was in the stroller and the other 3 walked and oh the complaining about how this was the LONGEST walk they had ever had to do! We went up one block, across 2 blocks, down 2 blocks and then in the back way on the bike path! By the time we got home my cheeks were getting pretty chilly! As long as we don't have some riduculous windchill tomorrow we will go again, and I might even take them further LOL!

I just know that next week is just going to drag by! I am suppose to have a dentist appt on the 22nd, but they haven't even told me what time yet. This is the same office that phoned me in Dec to tell me they had to cancel by appointment, an appointment they had failed to let me know I even had! The dentist does have those beautiful brown eyes but don't know if I like the way the office is run. Thursday and Friday Gary won't be at work as his boss signed the two of them up for a First Aid Course. A small business has to have a certain # of employees First Aid certified so it will be the boss and Gary. Then early Saturday morning we will be on the road! I am getting so excited! I know I need the break that is for sure, and so does Gary. Crystal will dogsit and hold down the fort for us.

Mom to a 24 year old!

Today is Ryan's 24th birthday. I can't believe it. Still seems strange not at least seeing him on his birthday.

As I type Crystal is getting ready to head to Virden for her interview. Guess she doesn't really take after her mom at all. I remember going for job interview and being a nervous wreck, but she seems calm calm calm. She will go to my dad's and then they will go out for lunch and then she will go to the interview.

Went to my doctor's appointment last night and as always he was running very behind. But at least once we got into his office he had time to talk to us, discuss things and give me some alternatives. The good news is that I don't go back in 2 months for another dilatation. When I went to my family doctor I didn't make it clear that I had had the second scope on Feb 10th and he was reading the report from the first on. And the dilatation he was talking about was the last one I had. That certainly made my night that is for sure. For now I continue on the aggressive drug treatment and go back in 4 months to see him and we will discuss cutting back my meds to see how I do. He also discussed another drug therapy that I could use and then asked me what I thought. I asked him if that since I was feeling good and quite able to manage my crohn's would it be feasable to continue with the meds I am on and then if down the road it gets worse then to discuss the other avenue. He said that that is what he would suggest I do. I am taking the information he gave me back to my family doctor and discussing it with him and finding out a bit more about it.

My needles have been busy with the wrist warmers. I have the girls all done and now to do the boys. Then I need to get at least a couple of no thinkums cast on.

Catching up

My needles have been busy the last few day. I am working on two shawls, one in crochet cotton on one in 2 ply alpaca. I needed a break from those projects so decided to to a felted bag. I also finished my first pair of socks done in koigu and I love that wool and can't wait to cast on the second pair. I am not working on wrist warmers that were promised to my daycare girls.(5 of them) I have one left to finish and the daycare boys started showing an interest in them, so now have 4 more pair to make! Glad they are easy and fast.

How can this be? Crystal turned 21 the middle of Feb. and now tomorrow Ryan turns 24! Where has the time gone? Crystal could not decide what she wanted for her birthday. Then she said that she wanted to go and get her hair done again, with the highlights but she couldn't really afford it right now. So that became her birthday present. So she made an appt for this morning, since she is on her spring break. Tomorrow she has a job interview in Virden. For her course they have to do job coop as part of the requirements. So far she has applied to the credit union in Virden and the credit union here. If she happens to get lucky enough to get the one in Virden she will live in my dad's basement. It works out good for them both, she won't be paying out huge rent and he gets company. And if she is lucky enough to get the one here then she can just live at home.

I saw my family doctor on Saturday for my shot, and he had a report from Dr. Dhalla. The report said that the last scope was a difficult scope. He didn't need to tell me that, I already knew! It also said that he wants to repeat in approx 2 months time this time with a florascope so he can get a better idea of what is going on. Also I am to stay on the Salofalk and I assume that will be for awhile as he gave me 10 months of refills. Tonight I have an appt with Dr Dhalla which will basically be a wast of time since Dr B has filled me in. I do not look forward to going to my 5:15 appt and not getting in till 7:00 or later. Must cast on something mindless to take with me to work on.

Very Sad

Yesterday I received some very shocking and sad news. A very dear online friend had passed away. Gail was a very sweet lady, who had endured much sadness throughout her life, but never once did I hear her utter a bitter word about it. She was an accomplished knitter who did lovely work, she loved spinning as well. She was a published designer, but never once was boastful about it. As a matter of fact you had to drag each and every detail from her, she thought it was really no big deal! She was such a fun lady to chat with, had her own off beat sense of humor that had us laughing all the time.

At one time she mention in passing that no one had ever knit anything for her, not complaining just mentioned it. When Gail got her diagnosis three of us decided that we would like to make her something, just to let her know that we cared. It warms my heart knowing that she had gotten three complete surprises in the mail, and how thrilled she was. I like that she got to cuddle up in the shawl I sent in the evenings while watching one of her favorite things, the Olympics!

In 2006 Gail wanted so badly to join us for our knitting get together, but her dh, George, was diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing chemo treatments. We were of course disappointed that they could not join us, but understood. We all sent up our thoughts and prayers for George, and the prayers worked. The beginning of this year he had his scan and was determined cancer free. The wonderful news was shadowed by Gail's dignosis, but she was strong and determined that she was going to beat this.

In one of the last chat I had with Gail she was anxious to get her treatments underway so she could put this behind her and be fit and ready to attend a get together in 2007, wherever it may be. I was thrilled that she wanted to come and couldn't wait to meet this lovely lady in person.

I never had the priviledge of meeting Gail in person, but have always thought of her as a dear friend! Always willing to lend a listening ear, offer advice for a project you were having trouble with, or just pass a bit of time in chat. As I said earlier Gail was never on to complain about her troubles. I am honored that during a few chats that she did take me into her confidence to share some of the sadness and hard times that she had endured. It really made me appreciate Gail so much more and look up to her. What a strong woman she was!

The full impact of this news has not fully sunk in for me yet. I can't believe that her name will never again pop up on msn, or she won't drop into chat again. That I won't have the honor of meeting her in person!

Gail, I held you as a very dear friend, a person I could confide in, a person who would always listen when listening was all that was needed, a person to share opinions with, and most of all a person to laugh with. I will miss you terribly and I will keep your dear George, your two grandchildren of who you were so proud of, and your son in law in my thoughts and prayers. I know their hearts must be breaking, but I pray that as time begins to heal they will take comfort in their many wonderful memories!

Rest in peace dear friend!
