Rain Rain go away

Woke up this morning to pouring rain and thunder. Turned the radio on to hear we were in heavy rainfall warnings, thunderstorm watches and warnings as well as flash flood warnings! My goodness when will this ever let up. The ground it just totally saturated so there are puddles everywhere. Went out after work to get groceries and it was still raining pretty hard. They say that it might stop by noon tomorrow, I hope they are right. We will still be heading to the trailer tomorrow night, we can stay inside there as easy as we can here.

Today was the last day of school! My days will actually be a little slower now that school is out. Cory is with his grandparents, Alexis is with her Grandma and Kenzie will only be here off and on as her mom is off for the summer as well. Come September I should be full again having Jordyn-10 yrs, Joleen-7 years, Cory-6 years, Alexis-5 years, John-5 years, Kenzie 2 years, Justin 2 years & Dayne 1 years.

Talked to my Dad tonight and they were suppose to come and put his ac in today, but because the weather was so bad they put it off till tomorrow. Hopefully it will be better and they can get it in. If we ever get some more hot days the humidity is just going to be awful!

Today I worked on Alexis's WW a little bit and that was all the knitting I got done.

What type of knitter are you?

Knitting Guru
You appear to be a Knitting Guru. You love knitting
and do it all the time. While finishing a piece
is the plan, you still love the process, and
can't imagine a day going by without giving
some time to your yarn. Packing for vacation
involves leaving ample space for the stash and
supplies. It can be hard to tell where the yarn
ends and you begin.

Time to build an ark?

Thank goodness we didn't get as much rain at the trailer as we got here over the weekend. Jordyn told me that they couldn't play soccer on Sunday as there was 2 inches of rain Saturday night. It was raining here when we got home last night and it rained all night long and is still spitting away out there! Enough already!

We had a good weekend at the trailer. It was chilly when we got there Friday night but we sat out around the fire for awhile before heading in. Saturday morning Gary went golfing and I went for my walk. In the afternoon we took part in the bean bag tournament which was fun. We headed home from there to put our chicken on the BBQ, we were having beer can chicken and it was very good. Don't know how we got so lucky but just as the chicken was finished we ran out of propane. Usually it runs out when you are about 1/2 done!

Yesterday we went to my aunt and uncle's over at the lake and had a potluck supper which was very good. The only bad thing about the whole weeknd was the mosquitos! They are just awful, what with all the rain we have had. There is no let up on them in sight either.

As far as knitting, I finished up the matching mittens to the WW I had finished and then cast on my next WW.

This morning my dad had his teleconference with his cancer doctor in Winnipeg. It is so nice that they can do that now and save a person having to drive all that way. The doctor told him that she was very worried when she heard what had lead up to his surgery and the initial post op report from Dr. Dhalla. But that she was very relieved when she read the pathology report. Dad told her, you might of been relieved, but not half as relieved as I was. So he has been told to go home and recover from his surgery and NO MORE chemo!!! He is so happy about that news. He has to see his family doctor in 3 months for a check up and then has to have a scope sometime after September. I really noticed this weekend that he looked as though he is finally putting on some weight. He is still bothered by diarreha, which his family doctor put him on antibiotic for, but the cancer doctor told him that antibiotic might not be what is required. He is suppose to go home and see how things behave now that he is done the perscription. If it worked then great, but if not to try taking immodium. She told him that it just might be from his surgery and what parts were involved in the surgery as well as what parts of his bowel that were removed. I have been suspicious of this, but when the doctor said antibiotic I never said anything to dad about it.

Finally a break

This morning I woke up to an almost chilly house, it was very welcome indeed. Our humidity is back were it should be, the temperatures have gone down a bit and there is a lovely breeze blowing. Just about perfect I think! So nice not to have the ac's and fans running everywhere. Hope that the weekend is just as pleasant.

With all the rain that we have had we now have a huge mosquito problem to deal with! I can't beleive the size of some of these bugs! You just don't go out the door without bug spray first that is for sure. They have been very bad at the trailer for the last couple of weeks, so we have been spending lots of time in our gazebo. Last night we went out to run errands, and picked up some of the bamboo citronella torches to try out. We like to sit out around the fire in the evenings and the pesky bugs have been making that difficult. Now to cross our fingers that by using them outside, and that they are up off the ground for a bit that they won't bother Gary. He seems to be allergic to the citronella..

Today the school age kids are all away on their end of the year field trips so it will be a rather quiet day. I have one that this is his last day till September. When he comes back his little brother will be starting daycare here as well. Haven't heard about the other's for sure yet, but I think I will have a couple away from the summer. The lighter load is always nice.

On the knitting front, I finished up the hat that matched my WW and am working on the mittens for it now. I took a pic of my WW but will have to try again, it didn't turn out very well.

Meilemweit Cotton Yarn

I have had this yarn for quite awhile and finally decided it was time to cast it on. I really like these little anklets to wear in my runners when I go walking. I have enough left over that I think, but using a coordinating color on the heels and toes I might get another pair too. Posted by Hello

Confetti Sock Yarn

Another pair of socks from confetti yarn. The color doesn't really show true on my monitor. The part I see as red is really a pinker color. With what I have left over I think I can get a pair of socks for Kenzie from it, for her Christmas present Posted by Hello

Welcome Summer

Wow...summer has hit Manitoba with a vengance. Today our temperature was 30 with the humidex about 35 or higher. When you walked outside it was just like a wall hit you. I think that I might have convinced my dad to look into ductless air conditioning for his house. He has been saying how the heat is really bothering him this year. I phoned a place today and got a quote for him and he said that he just might do it. He always worries about spending money on 'useless' things and 'wasting' our inheritance. I tried to tell him that if it made him more comfortable then it wouldn't be useless, and as long as he left enough money in his account to pay his final bills that was all we needed.

After work today Gary went out to cut wood for us to use at the trailer. I really tried to tell him that he should wait till the weekend, when it is suppose to be at least a bit cooler but you know men! He called from the farm to say that he was just going to load what he had cut on the truck and dump it off at the trailer.

This morning poor Kenzie started telling me that her ears hurt. I didn't know if they really were or not or if she just liked that when she said they hurt she got my undivided attention. Finally decided to call her mom and she could decide if she wanted to take her in or what. Glad that I called her and that she decided to take her in, as she does have the beginnings of ear infection

I finished up one of the WW, and it turned out the right size for Johnathon so I can now go from there figuring out the other sizes I will need. I will have to take a picture of it and post it. I was quite happy with the way it turned out. Now I have cast on a matching hat and will also do mittens.

Sunshine

Yesterday and today the sun shone finally. Yesterday there were some cloudy periods but no rain and today it was mostly sunny. Makes one feel so much better just seeing the sun in the sky!

Last night after supper Gary helped me dig up some flower beds and then we went over to the nursery and picked up some flowers for them. Got home and planted them, all the time thinking to myself, this is the latest I can ever remember planting flowers. I just hope we don't get HOT temps right away but rather gradually so the poor little things don't bake.

Yesterday and today I did a little bit of work on the WW that I am making. Today knitting time was rather limited as I had to help the kids with their father's day presents! Oh to be so little again and to be so excited by the simplest of things!

Our weekend at the lake will be a little shorter this weekend. Tomorrow night we have to go to a BBQ with some couples that we bowl with. If at all possible we might try to sneak out by 10 so we would still have time to drive to the trailer. If we can't do that then we will just get up early in the morning and go. Gary has a tee time booked with some of the guys for 9 a.m. so he would have to drop me off, get to the course, get the carts out and all that fun stuff.

Think Dad will come out for supper on Saturday night for Father's Day. It is easier to do supper on Saturday rather than Sunday as then we aren't trying to hurry and get things cleaned up and packed up so we can get home.

Time to build that ark

Thank goodness we had nice weather over the weekend because yesterday it started raining again and it has been raining since! Gary could not even go golfing tonight with his league because the course was closed as it is too wet! They are saying that it is suppose to clear over night and we should have drier and warmer weather, I sure do hope they are right.

I will have to post pictures of the couple of pair of socks that I have finished. One pair is at the trailer so I will take a picture of them this weekend and then put them up. I have cast on the first wonderful wallaby, the first out of seven. This is what I have decided to do for my daycare kids for Christmas. I bought the yarn for John's, Alexis's & Kenzie's. I will see once they are done what I have left over, I just might have enough of the blue that I am using for John's to make Dayne's. I had to laugh when I was buying the yarn. I am just using red heart from Walmart as these are kids sweaters that will be washed and washed and worn hard. I was looking at the colors, trying to decide if I would do the ribbings a co-ordinating color or make them all one color etc. I had two different yarns in my hand and was checking the guage of it to see if I could maybe use them together and along comes the saleslady. She admited she did not knit and knew nothing about yarn, but did I need help. I told her that I was just comparing the two to see if they would knit up the same guage and she tells me, oh yes they are both 4 ply so they will. I showed her the guage on both, telling her that the were a different guage so they would work up a bit different. She looked at me shocked and said, you mean that is what that means. LOL!!! She kept hanging around chatting with me and I just really wanted her to go and help someone else, so I could think.

Other things I have cast on at present are: a batwing shawl, Sue's poncho pattern & my 2 socks on 2 circulars. The batwing is mindless work that I pick up now and again. The ponch pattern should be mindless by now, but I just can't get that repeat in my head! The socks I do a few rows here and there, I think I am scared to do too much on them because I will eventually have to do the heel and I am not sure I have that figured out. LOL!

I have also been working on chemo caps and hat and mitten sets for the mitten tree. I have a list of 'want to do's' a mile long, but just need the time!

Finally some sun shine

We finally had a nice weekend at the campground. We got out Friday night and cooked supper, and then had to sit in the gazebo as the mosquitos were wicked. Guess with all the rain and cool weather we have had they have multiplied by the 100's. About 9 p.m. Gary started a fire and we sat around it until 10, when it started to rain. We quickly put everything away and went in, but even though it looked like it wa settling in for the night, it only lasted for about half an hour. Once the rain stopped, we could hear some of the people we know out there so we headed down to their campsite and they had a nice big fire going, so we sat around it and visited till about 1.

Saturday Gary went golfing and I just stayed at the trailer, knitted on a dolly sweater I had started and watched a bit of TV. Once Gary got back we had a bite of lunch and were just sitting there when my Dad drove in. He scared the dickens out of me, cos when I asked him how he was, his reply was...Not very good. So I asked him, what is the matter. His reply, I am pretty shock up. He then tells us that there had been an accident in town that morning, a lady drove her car across the tracks as a train was coming and was hit and killed. It turned out that the lady was Nora's(the lady my dad sees) sister in law. As of yet, they don't know exactly what happened and they may never know. The crossing had the lights that flash and the train always blows it's horn as it passes the crossings in town, so people don't really know what happened, unless she had a heart attack or stroke or something similar and didn't even realize what she was doing. It definetly is a shock for a small town!

Sunday, Gary went golfing again in the morning. The rest of the day we just relaxed and didn't do much at all. Just enjoying the sun and nice weather.

Monday already

We spent another weekend at the trailer, and while the weather wasn't the best it was better than the last couple of weekends. We were able to have a fire and sit out Friday night till about 10. We just got things put away and in the trailer and down came the rain. Saturday morning Gary went golfing with some of the guys and I did some rearranging and tidying and then watched some TV and knit on a shawl and a chemo cap. I also started making some mitten and hat sets for the mitten tree at Christmas time.

After Gary got back from golfing we had a quick lunch and then went to town to help Dad out. Gary did some weedeating and then cut the grass. I pulled some grass and weeds out of flower beds and then planted some flowers for Dad. He puttered around helping me. I was worried that he was doing too much and told him to make sure he didn't overdo and he said that he was done and was going in to lay down. Gary and I puttered around in the yard giving him some extra time to rest. He was going out to a birthday supper that night so we had a coffee with him and then left so he could rest till it was time to go. Saturday night we were able to sit out at the fire till it was time to go in to bed. The mosquites were wicked, but it was nice being able to be outside.

Sunday Gary went golfing again, and I worked on my chemo caps etc again. In the afternoon Dad drove out for a visit to help put the afternoon in and stayed for supper.

And now it is back to another week. Tonight Gary has got to cut the grass if it isn't raining. It is getting really high! And this week we have got to try and get the basement more in order and finished up. Always something to do, never enough time.

Some clouds do have a silver lining

Yesterday was the day that we met with Dad's surgeon. I know that we were all very anxious about the meeting because the doctor had asked Dad to bring his family with him. We waited and waited for it to be Dad's turn to go in to see the doctor. He had been held up at the hosptial in surgery. When we got into his office the doctor was just in the process of reading Dad's pathology report. He seemed to read for a long time and then he said, "Well Mr. Simpson, I have some good news for you." He finished reading the report and then told Dad that there had been NO cancer cells found in the pathology report at all. Possibly as a side effect from the chemo, it appears that the wall of Dad's bowel became weakened and it perforated. A 'sack" of infection and pus formed and has the infection grew this 'sack' became bigger and created a blockage in the bowel. Doctor Dhalla was happily surprised by this outcome as he fully expected the read that there had been a recurrance of the cancer. He explained a few more things, told Dad that since he has had one occurance of cancer that he must have regular scopes and then told him...."After getting this news I think you should go out for a real nice dinner and have a big drink"*S* Because it was so late we wanted something rather quickly, so we had pizza to celebrate! You could see that a huge weight had been lifted from Dad's shoulders and I am sure that we will notice big difference in him now. I bet his appetite increases and he just continues to get stronger now that his mind is resting easier.
